India's large and growing population has proven to be one of the most significant causes of its severe social, economic, and environmental problems.

Violence against women exists all over the world, yet is more evident in countries like India where gender violence is not vigorously enforced in the densely populated regions due to the lingering preservation of traditional extreme views.

On December 26th 2004, a major tsunami took at least 60,000 lives in India, caused massive destruction of property and severely crippled the fishing fleet.
