Honduras is one of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere with an enormous problems of unequal distribution of income and extreme unemployment.
More than half the population (53%) lives below the poverty line.
Hurricane Mitch devastated Honduras in 1998, killing 5,600 people and causing approximately $2 billion in damages. World Accord and CIDA assisted PRR (Honduran project partner) in constructing 205 concrete block houses with sanitation facilities for people who lost their homes in the disaster.
