Counseling of Adolescent and Youth Organization (CAYO)

Every area of the world requires its own expertise and with so many opportunities in other parts of the world, World Accord has not made the non-trivial significant investment in developing the knowledge, experience, and contacts needed to do projects in Africa. However, in honouring a bequest specifically designated for AIDS relief, World Accord has entered into a partnership with Counseling of Adolescent and Youth Organization (CAYO) in Malawi, a country where poverty, violence and especially HIV/AIDS combine to give a newborn child a life expectancy of less than 37 years.

CAYO provides awareness programs to educate local youth of the dangers, realities and treatment of HIV/AIDS. CAYO also works with the local community to understand the issues, influences and difficulties faced by young persons in the region and attempts to implement programs to counter some of them, such as awareness campaigns, youth-group open discussions and training sessions.

CAYO's approach is very consistent with World Accord's development philosophy – they focus first on listening to the youth about the problems they face and then working with the youth to find solutions.
