Pakistan is an impoverished and underdeveloped country that has suffered from decades of internal political disputes, low foreign investment, and a costly struggle with India.
Like many other countries in the developing world, child labour is prevalent in Pakistan, where half of the population is under 19 years of age. Much of the Pakistan economy is oriented to producing goods for export, which means they rely heavily on low-cost, unskilled labour. Children readily provide a cheap, trainable, and unorganized source labour to fill these jobs. The places where these children work are hazardous and physical, psychological and sexual abuse is common.
