Investing in local expertise

World Accord international development

At World Accord we deeply believe that effective international development begins at the local level. That is why we keep the knowledge and expertise of our program partners at the centre of the work we do.

The end result of this collaborative approach is a process that delivers diverse, highly targeted development activities that respond to the unique needs, capacities, and goals of specific communities in their own environments. It also means that World Accord’s contributions help build long-term capacities and local economies.
World Accord is actively involved in a wide range of international development activities in Latin American and Asian countries that include:

• Micro-enterprise/Micro-credit
• Community healthcare initiatives
• Sustainable agricultural practices
• Education and capacity building
• Community organizing
• Soil and water conservation
• Environmental protection strategies
• Finance and accounting management
• Gender equality issues

Our international partners

World Accord's core of strong international partners includes the following organizations and current projects:
  1. Women for Peace and Democracy – Nepal (WPD - Nepal) supports sustained grass-roots development by building the capacities of rural women's organizations in Central Nepal. WPD provides groups with training, technical support and resources in communitiy development, sustainable farming, animal raising, micro-enterprises, and credit.

  2. Community Organization and Resource Development India Trust (CORDI - India) helps women and men living in poverty to organize Self-Help Groups, and provides them with community development, business and skills training, as well as access to credit. CORDI also provides skills training and housing alternatives for women and children affected by family violence, and conducts education and awareness training on gender issues and violence.

  3. Mujeres en Acción (MeA - Guatemala) Women in Action is an association of indigenous women that promotes community organizing, and provides community members with training, resources and credits to start a small business, and improve farm productivity. MeA also works in the areas of community advocacy and self-development, education, and environmental protection. MeA is a key member of a national association of indigenous women in Guatemala.

  4. Programa de Reconstrucción Rural (PRR - Honduras) promotes environmentally sustainable farming and income generation by providing rural families with training, technical support and resources to implement organic agriculture, crop diversification, and soil and water conservation.  PRR also helps marginalized farmers improve incomes and regain control over food production by helping them develop, share and store locally developed seed varieties. PRR also conducts educational and health programs.

  5. Asociación de Desarrollo Comunal Ambiental y Servicios Multiples (ADCASMUS - El Salvador) helps small-scale farmers living in poverty improve their incomes through rotating credits, crop diversification, home gardens and animal raising programs.  ADCASMUS also conducts education and vocational training projects with youth living in marginalized urban and rural communities.

  6. Proyecto Aldea Global (PAG - Honduras) helps rural families improve their diets and incomes through chicken, fish and pig raising projects, as well as by fostering diversified farming, and local markets. PAG also supports eco-tourism and environmental protection in the ecologically sensitive region of Lake Yojoa, Honduras.

  7. Foundation for International Development Assistance – Productive Cooperatives Haiti (FIDA-pcH) works with farmer cooperatives as a means of fostering sustainable, locally-led development. Key components of FIDA-pcH’s work include organizing and establishing coops, credits, as well as training and technical assistance in ecologically sustainable farming and conservation.  FIDA-pcH also provides members with literacy training.

In addition to these core partners, World Accord is also collaborating with

Sri Lanka Centre for Development Facilitation (SLCDF) to provide low-income farmers in Southern Sri Lanka with training in community development, as well as technical support and inputs to adopt ecologically sustainable farming, and cattle raising.

World Accord is not an emergency relief organization. However, when a trusted partner organization is working with communities affected by a natural disaster, World Accord strives to assist their emergency response and recovery work. Over the past year, World Accord has supported the emergency response efforts of:

INSAN Foundation - Pakistan
SLCDF - Sri Lanka
Mujeres en Accion – Guatemala
FIDA-pcH - Haiti
