Hunger Challenge™

Hunger Challenge™ is an opportunity for people to get together and have fun while raising funds for some very serious issues – poverty and hunger.

This event challenges youth to experience what it’s like to be hungry, and to make an active commitment to connect with their brothers and sisters around the world who are desperately poor and hungry. By sacrificing some meals, getting sponsors, and joining with friends in the challenge, youth can help other kids go to school, get clean water, or overcome hunger. It’s an experience that not only changes the lives of those hungry and poor, but of those who participate in the event.

Funds raised through Hunger Challenge are put to work within World Accord’s field programs. As an example, this list shows how even modest amounts of money (by our standards) can make a real difference in the lives of the poor in Honduras.

  • $10 will buy schoolbooks for one child for one year
  • $35 will be enough to build an indoor cooking stove
  • $75 will buy a goat whose milk prevents malnourishment in infants
  • $120 will purchase a metal silo to store food away from rodents and weather
  • $200 will provide a concrete floor and sheet metal roof for a home
  • $250 will cover the cost per family to have safe drinking water in their village
  • $7,000 will build a one-room school
