Fastathon

What is a Fastathon?

World Accord Fastathon is an annual fund-raiser and development education weekend held at Ziontario campgrounds in Ontario.

Central to the experience of the weekend is being hungry. By going without food for 36 hours (drinking fluids only) participants gain a small degree of insight into the challenges faced every day by so many of the world's poor people. Participants find sponsors for their hours of fasting and the funds raised go towards World Accord's overseas projects.

Fastathon includes informative sessions about World Accord's work around the world, guest speakers, and fun learning activities centered on development issues. Fastathon celebrates diversity and aims to foster a greater understanding of the needs and lifestyles of other cultures. Each participant's level of sponsorship earns them tickets for draws to win great prizes, including the grand prize of a trip to Central America to participate in one of World Accord's Construction Expedition programs.

The end of the hours of fasting is celebrated with a banquet that underscores our need to be thankfully aware of the richness of our food supply.

Why Should You Attend Fastathon?

Because it's a fun weekend! Fastathon is a great learning experience and a community of friends who care about the issues that affect our brothers and sisters in developing countries. Many participants come year after year to learn, to share their ideas, to celebrate and to personally make a difference.

Fastathon is also World Accord's largest fundraising activity, bringing in a record $30,000 in 2005. Participating in Fastathon lets you directly be part of a solution to poverty and hunger in the developing world.
